Haight-Ashbury Tree Locations

The Haight-Ashbury neighborhood is densely planted with mature trees.  However, with the exeption of the Cole Valley area, the neighborhood does not have a lot of diversity.  Most of the Haight's trees were planted in the 1970s (or earlier) by the City at a time when less was known about what species were appropriate as street trees.  As a result, the neighborhood is densely planted with a limited number of species, some of which are so inappropriate as street trees that they are no longer permitted by the City (Myoporums, Modesto Ash) or are extremely large trees that are inappropriate under wires (Red Flowering Gums, Blackwood Acacias).  As for unique trees, it doesn't look like much, but the Laburnum x watereri (Goldenchain Tree) at 414 Shrader near Oak, is the only one on the streets of San Francisco.
